The image circle indicated (36cm) is the size of the circle image measured on the focusing screen.

See that I have written "see the maker's recommendations below".

The maker recommends to use this lens with a 9x12cm plate with full open diaphragm, with a 11x14cm plate at medium aperture, and with a 13x18cm plate with small diaphragms.

Both indications are intended to offer to the potential user the complete information about this lens.
